The golden rule is that hats should be replaced whenever they have suffered a severe impact with the ground, a horse’s hoof or a fence.
This mainly applies to falling off and hitting your head but, remember, your hat could also be damaged even if you just drop it onto a hard surface.
You should also replace your hat if you’ve been using a very old model that no longer conforms to safety standards. Or you might have picked up a hat as a ‘bargain’ from a sale or a friend, and not be quite sure of its origin, any standards it meets, or its history.
Replace it with a hat with a standard – it may cost you a few pounds but your head is priceless!
