The Trainer

Rachel’s not going to have a safe, pleasurable ride until she has Ed listening and doing what she asks. This horse is six years old and he’s learning a life of crime. Rachel needs to take charge and stop accepting this kind of behaviour from him. I would advise her to do lots of canter to walk transitions at home until Ed becomes more responsive. Rachel also needs to work on her own position. She needs to practise keeping her legs back and her weight down in her heels – this will make her a lot more secure in the saddle.

The Rider

Ed doesn’t stop as much at home. I think he must have been put off by the bright fillers. It was great to have someone like Tim to help me deal with him acting up, and I’ll definitely be practising my transitions when I get home.
