I really feel for you - my little mare was also diagnosed at the beginning of this year. She is only 14 (although my vet says nearer 20!) but age ISN'T as much of a factor in Cushings as people think, they can get it as young as 6! I hoped my mare was just hairy as I got her in winter 18 months ago but last summer she could not shed her coat, was sweaty and drank and wee-d for Britain so I knew she would prove positive for Cushings. I give her Pergolide tablets now and they have made a huge difference, she looks amazing and her coat has stayed short after clipping. Sadly she is on box rest now with laminitis which is often linked with Cushings - even though she is fit, not fat, kept on a tiny amount of sparse pasture AND fetched in off the grass during the day too!! So be really careful with your mare, I thought I was being as careful as I could with mine but I think Cushings must make them really, REALLY suceptible to laminitis. Best of luck to you with your mare xx
