My 12.2hh mare has got a bad case of thrush. I have tried all anti-bacterial ointments and none seem to work. She is in every night and is always standing on a clean, dry surface. Can anyone help me please?

I have a TB with bad thrush at the min, I am lucky enough to have somewhere with rubber matting to put him so I dont have to use bedding but realise most people wont be as fortunate! Try using shavings instead of straw as it tends to keep feet dryer (just make sure bed is deep), use the hydrogen peroxide as already mentioned and spray with Alamycin (blue spray for sheep foot rot). Make sure she has her frogs trimmed well by the farrier and I wouold keep her shod if possible as it helps the frog stay clear of the ground. Also keep her in during the day as well. Good luck in clearing it up xx

also once you have cleared the thrush use tar spray as a waterproof barrier to prevent the thrush happening again.

what bedding is your horse on ? try 20ml of hydrogen peroxide twice a day for a week and pick out the feet as much as possible eg going of of the box coming in from the field. if this does not work try hibi scrubbing the feet and purple spraying them, you want something that will draw the infection out. some people use poultices however this keeps the foot damp which is a bad idea. if this does not work call your vet out, and possibly ask for some anti biotics in conjunction with purple spray.

hey i have had the same problem and my method is easy. Scrub the infected feet with water then spray on some hydrogen peroxide and wait for it to fizz up and bubble the spray on some thing like purple spray to keep the hydrogen peroxide in then do the other foot. BUT ONLY DO IT A MAX OF TWICE A WEEK AND ONLY ON THE INFECTED FEET!!!!
