my pony cribs. he gets colic from time to time. its the hardest thing to try and stop - collars, crib-ox etc just hide the problem and dont deal with it. chances are it will just make the horse more stressed and therefore crib/windsuck more. my advise to you is just try and ignore it. its just part of your horse. like someone who smokes or bites thier nails - a horrible habbit but it doesnt change their personality. although a few more suggestions to try (if thats the route you want to take) - nail up-turned broom heads on your stable door which will prevent the horse from cribbing/windsucking on it. electric tape along the door conected to a power pack or car battery (an extreme solution but it will definately stop them doing it on the door). feeding hay from the floor or hayrack will stop them doing it on haynets. extend the stable door upwards. if the door is above a certain height they cant rest their teeth or chin on it to crib or windsuck. probiotic yoghurts can settle acids in a horses stomach (this probably wont work with extreme cases). the ususal - lots of hay - although this doesnt help mine. he just takes a mouthful of hay and them cribs on the door. he will also crib on fences in the field. iv also known horses to windsuck on the backs of other horses!unless you have had a cribber/windsucker its had to explain it - there are no quick fixes!!

Sorry, but with the greatest respect... collars do not 'tackle' windsucking, they simply prevent the horse from manifesting its distress/discomfort in a particular form. It is still distressed/uncomfortable! Rather like gagging someone who is crying in pain. Get to the bottom of the issue, either the horse is riddled with ulcers. (My Vet told me that 90% of windsuckers he has come across had ulcers.) or it has sufferd mis-management in the past and needs sympathetic management now... max turnout, adlib forrage, company and a stimulating enviroment.
