All you should need is a good pair of brushing boots. These give protection from knocks and bangs and are usually a reasonable price. They usually come in pony, cob or full sizes. In some cases you may find, where a pony size is fine for the front, you may need a slightly larger size for the hindlegs.
Measure your pony’s leg from below the knee to above the fetlock, and the width. This will give you a better idea of which size boot to go for and these dimensions are often on the packet.
If the boot’s too long, it will interfere with the flexing joint, too short and it will not afford the protection that it should. Ask for help at your local saddlers if you’re still unsure of sizing – most are happy to exchange if the sizing is wrong and the boots haven’t been used.
