My horse gets over-excited when we hack out with others. How can I keep her calm?

If you’re worried that other horses may set your horse off, it’s worth hacking her on her own for a while until you feel in control in all situations and know she’s calm on her own. Then, introduce other horses slowly – hack out with one first, then two etc. Don’t hack out in a big group until she’s really settled. Also, hacking out with a field mate or other horse she knows well might help to keep her calm. Only hack with sensible friends who can control they’re own horses and won’t mind you asking them to slow down or stop if need be.
