Hey i have experienced this many of times, and letting them go home is probably the worst thing to do as then they will get into a habit of it, as they know that if they try and do it, you will just give in and go home, so i agree with jane menzis on the just turning around in a circle, so just as soon as he spins around just keep turning him the same way and just keep going round and round, untill he gives in and walk on. and to start of with go out on your own but have someone walking on the grounf and have a lead rope on him, so that if he does something stupid and you loose control and panic, they will haev control, and they can lead the horse forward so that he will realise he wont be allowed to go home, and eventually he will just give in, unless he sees something he gets really scared at, then it is understandable for him to turn but even if he does it then, do the same and give him confidence in walking forward past the object,

What you could do, is lead her out on hacks in hand to get her used to being on her own - she'll trust you and be far braver when you're on the ground. As herd animals, most of them do prefer to hack in company though it can be easily trained out of them. I'd reccommend leading out and doing trust exercises (not meaning to offend) and if you do go out riding with others, if she is the lead horse, ask the other(s) to hang back, and if she isn't, hang back yourself - let the other(s) know what you're planning first, otherwise it might all go pear shaped when they wonder what on earth you're up to (Been there myself) After you've worked on separation at a short distance you can begin with short hacks, maybe with a close friend leading her out in front, lengthening the rides by a small amount. As time goes on you'll both learn to put absolute trust into one another and it should be alot nicer to ride out alone. I have trouble getting mine to go out too.on my search for answers, what you are describing is known as napping. it takes different forms. The advice is, to walk it in circles turning it back the way you want to go.The most important point seems to be in anticipating what and wher it is going to play up and take action before hand to avoid that point. Keep saliva in your mouth and try breath normal. if it goes to spin turn it in circles. getting larger untill it is walking on the way you want to go.get it to stand still facing the way you intend going then when your ready move off again. I did get a much better responce. It is just having the time and energy to go through it each time you go out. it gets less as they realise you are not being messed about by them. but it is a pain. someone may have other tips for you.
