Horses and ponies come in all shapes and sizes. Two may be the same height but their build can make them look quite different.
A pony must be able to carry your weight easily, so that strain is not put on its back and legs. Some native breeds, though small in height, can be stocky and very strong. At the same time, you don’t want anything that’s too big and strong for you to control, or where your aids are ineffectual. Qualified instructors at riding schools will know the right size of pony to suit you. If you feel uneasy, it may be due to a balance issue, or something that you could concentrate on in your lessons.
