There's no point in pretending to be confident about the whole thing - if you're finding it difficult, talk to your instructor or another knowledgeable horsey person about your riding and the horses that you ride - maybe book a lesson at a different school and see how you get on there. As BHSbabe said - think about your riding too, however riding difficult or dangerous horses when you're not confident will not help you at all! It sounds like its worth checking out other places to ride though - good luck!

I always believe that whatever you do you should follow your instinct first. If you feel that these horses really are dangerous and that nothing you can do will help matters then I would suggest switching to a new barn. But I would first reccomend talking to a well-educated equine adult about your problem such as your instructor. You may be able to come up with a way to school your horses so that they are well behaved. Also, ask yourself these questions, Is my postition correct? Are my aids to my horse clear and correct? Are these horses normally this way and if so, is my instructor giving advice to help my problem? Is there any indication of why these horses act this way? For example: Are they never corrected or schooled when they do these things? Is the barn area and the horses well kept? You see, if these horses were not trained properly and are getting away with these antics they could turn into bad habits that can be quite hard to break. Try finding articles about cases like this is horse magazines such as Young Rider or Horse that may shed some light on a soloution. I hope my advice helps!

I suggest you express your concern to the yard manager. Ask to ride one of the two horses you enjoy riding and remember even if you are not confident make sure you act it that can effect the horses attitude making him uneasy. Instead of jumping try schooling to regain your confidence and gradually build up from schooling to trotting poles to a small jump and go from there. If all else fails i would move yards. Becca x
