the price of the stud isn't as reliable as judging the horse for yourself.  choose a stallion that looks good to you on instinct and that has whatever your looking for (whether thats confirmation/competition histiory/temperment) and then find out as much as you can about foals he has already sired and see what they are up to and what they are like.  DNA is 50:50 so you are guarenteed nothing! you can have the worst genes from both parents or the best - both cases are just as unlikely as each other!

if you can't meet the stallion or get references from other people (and i mean other than the owner of course!) then dont trust just what you read!  generally it is true that the higher the price, the higher the quality, but like with fashion sometimes your buying the label just as much as the item and you can get the same quality for less elsewhere if you know where to look.

the best thing is to not rush into any decisions until you feel confident.  get an expert to come with you when looking at the stallion if you can - kind of like buying a horse in a way!
