I have just bought a 14.1hh gelding and keep him in a separate paddock to my 12.2 mare at the moment. I have been told that they will never be able to go in the same paddock because they will fight, is this true?

Will they be able to stay in the same field?

I wouldn't take what they said forgranted, but it's not definetely true. Just be careful and aware of them. Maybe you could try introdcing them in the yard from time to time, or you could try taking them on rides together! Good Luck, Be Careful!

no this is not strictly true my gelding lives happily with the other mares in the field. there will be an assement of dominence but should straighten out.

Sometimes....... I have a mare and gelding in the same pasture. They are best friends and love to do everything together. I suggeste that you put them in together during the day and see how they react. Then, sperate during meals, and at night. If they get along find try feeding them together. Or, may put them together at night. But, for now see how they are during the day. :)

o yes... what will happen is yes they will fight but that is establishing dominence and the rolls of the "heard" once they find out who is friends and who isnt ... they will be fine and once they find out who the head horse is
