Let them meet over the fence, or put them in fields next to each other if you have the facilities. But I am sure they will be alrite, when I first put my mare out with another pony, they had been talking over the fence for a while, then we just decided one day that that was the day to do it, they may be abit funny at first as they work out the herd heirachy between them, also if there is another horse in a neighbouring field they may be protective I hope this helps a little bit! We intoduced a new 12yr old gelding to our two young mares, at first they were in fields next to each other separated by electric tape. After two weeks we introduced the gelding into the mares field and they were absolutely fine. Good luck.
