Have you done some research into different methods of horsemanship??  I would certainly look at Parelli if you have not.  Parelli is not for everyone but it is a fantastic method for building a great understanding and trust with your horse.  It is also very structured to help you achieve and reach your goals.  It seems daunting at first but perservering really does pay off.  My horse has been doing Parelli for about 6 months now and the transformation is unbelievable! 

Take a look at the web site, it is really interesting stuff from finding out what your horses 'personality' is (or horseanality) and how that effects their behaviour etc.  they have a new starter DVD which a great introduction to the programme.

My horse does all sorts now and our relationship has gone from very argumentative with my horse constantly trying to dominate me to an acceptance that I am the boss and I do always what is best for him so he should and must trust me. 

Parelli is life changing and I hope you enjoy researching into this.

Well with me I like to know a horse before riding it.

So you will need to know your horse extreamly well before rushing straight into getting a greater trust.

I agree with GeorgiaHorse on this one and suggest using her tecnique. But if not able to make sure to become the boss of your horse. Of course you still want to be your horses "best friend" so there are ways to get this strong bond.

Feeding Helps with Bond

My favourite horse named Erin in my stables is a wonderful horse not many peoples favourites but I really do respect her and she respects me. If I am giving her food and I am  leaning down at the bucket she will not go near the bucket. This is because the leader always gets to eat first in a horse heard and never shares it unless welcomed too. Once I am away from the bucket that is a sign that I am letting her have the treats.

Clearly Erin respects me and as a reward she gets to eat.

Most horses just go into the bucket and push you away. If they do this you must take control and be firm! Even if that doe mean being cruel but fair. Eventually your horse will learn to behave when getting offered food and you will become the leader and you two will respect each other.

Also some horses beg for the bucket of food, if they do beg dont give the food walk away until they settle down and then come back with the food and see if they will behave. ( Some kick their doors, dont let them do this)

Being With her Helps bonding

Grooming, massaging, join up and many more diffrent ways help you and your horse bond. Massaging is quite affective but not all horses like it, you can hire people to massage your horse but what you want to do is help massage the horse with the hired person so your horse see's your helping her to relax, she probubly wont see the hired person again so the horse will give you all the credit. So I'd suggest that oyu try it out !
