I find the best way to treat mud fever is to bring the horse in from the field and allow the legs to dry thoroughly.Once the legs are dry you must brush off any mud with a soft body brush.Now apply a thick layer of sudocrem to the affected area and wrap around kitchen cling film.Your horse is now to be stabled for approx 24-48 hours to allow the scabs to sweat.Take cling film off and comb through the legs using a nit comb to remove any scabs.Now wash your horses legs in a mixture of warm water and hibi scrub.Dry thoroughly and apply another layer of sudocrem to sooth the skin.Keep the horse in untill skin is no longer red and all scabs have gone.To help prevent mud fever from comming back use vaseline when turned out.Hope this helps! it worked a treat on my coloured!
