hi yes he had farrier out,vet a few times,hes as good as gold bless him..he had his first bath few weeks back n he was really good!! excellent with traffic ,we go out for walks a lot ,yes hes fine with puddles ,i make sure he walks passed or threw them ,and same things with drains ..i always let him have a smell n look at things were walking passed ,hes really nosey haha ..yes hes been rugged ,only a few nights cus i bathed him ,hes staying in a stable at nights now with 2 other geldings ,hes friend who he lived out with went to a new home so i wasnt letting him stay out by himself ,he seems to love it tho ,we open the gate n he trots off into his stable !! havnt shown him the clippers!! thanks for that ,,sorry havnt been on here for months so only just see this!xx

Going to get a reputation for repeating myself here! But if you want to get off to a great start and have your Cob really trust you, look into clicker training with him. Also "Teach yourself Horse" by Heather Simpson is a great start at learning about your horses needs in advance of backing him. Good luck and dont forget everything you do together should be fun, for both of you.

continue with picking the feet up, and start getting his legs in the position for the farrier.

Ask him to lead

Get him used to things being placed on his back ( ready for rugs)

when grooming do under the belly too.

If you can, wrap your arms round his belly and see if you can make them meet.

Get him used ti wheel barrows and tarpauliin.

Get him used to respect by getting him to go back when asked, move his quarters over when asked, not play up when leading.

I have found a good book called training your young horse by Richard Maxwell it has been very useful.

I have a surprise colt born in may this year  that i have done a fair bit of work with. He leads well, I can open and close gates leading him and his mum on my own, has had his first Farrier trim, had his passort and vetting done ( to get him insured). He has rugs on, me leaning on him, wrap my arms around his belly, and play with his ears.
