If you're going to be the one looking after the horse all day every day, then you shouldn't have to pay the owner, although it would be up to you to pay all farrier fees, feed and livery, and probably insurance as well.

If it's only a part time loan, like a share, then yes, possibly the owner would be looking for some money.

I should get back to the owner and ask exactly what they want and go from there -and if you do loan, then please make sure you get a proper loan agreement - there's one you can downlaod from the BHS website and adapt to whatever you want.
