Where i am we get a pretty good deal an he is a good doer anyway. Weekly its:

Field: £15

Farrier: £4

Then he is vaccinated yearly: £60 an theres wormer, replacment stuff it all adds up to yearly about £800-1000- and thats cheap!!

It all depends where you are and what kind of facilities you want and also the type of horse!!

I have a thoroughbred and he costs me a small fortune !

This is a run down of my monthly costs.

Hay- 2 large round bales-£80

Straw- 2 large round bales- £40

Livery- £100

Hard feed and supplements - £40

Haylage - £32

Insurance - £20

Shoes- every 6 weeks- £74

This is without a lesson once a month, annual vets bills, buying new rugs after them being trashed, show entries, petrol to and from the yard etc.

If you had a good doer hardy little horse then you wouldnt need half of this.

It depends very much on your horse and the amount of work you do it.

As someone has already said `How long is a piece of string?`.  Horse costings vary greatly with your location, type of horse and ambitions/abilities.

I would suggest you go to a local livery yard and ask someone if they wouldnt mind giving you a rough idea, especially if they have a horse that is similar in type to one that you would like to own.
