How do I know if the hoof supplement I’m using is providing the vitamins and minerals my horse needs?

Farrier Glyn Trundle advises…..
Hoof supplements should contain biotin (essential for hoof horn formation), as well as calcium and methionine for strong, healthy hooves. Look for chelated minerals, especially zinc, which are bonded with small proteins, peptides and amino acids to enhance the rate of absorption during digestion.
Look at the feeding rates as it’s important to give your horse enough of the minerals he needs. Also, compare value for money. A supplement may be expensive but if you only feed 10g daily it will obviously last longer than if you’re feeding 100g. The final thing to look out for is whether the manufacturer has carried out any research into the product – and whether there’s evidence to back up its claims.
