I managed to get 50kgs off Archie this year. It is a tough job keeping it off when it comes to turn out time for him. At the moment he is out for 1 to 2 hours and exercise for about 30 mins to 1 hour per day - longer at the weekend. Sometimes can't manage both but we try our very best given weather, mud and dark mornings / nights.
The big issue is when I have less control over his grazing (especially on livery) however I now wait until the other horses have been our about 3 weeks and have eaten off the really good grass, then I stage his turn out and build up as the grass gets less. Sticking to his exercise regime is the most important issue, keeps the EMS at bay apparently.
The truth is there is no let up really, once a horse prone to weight gain - always a horse prone to weight gain so we are always working on the weight maintenance.
