My horse has a very thick, long tail and, deep in, it’s scurfy and full of dandruff. I’ve used baby oil on it with no success – what else can I try?

Ellie Hoyes advises:
It’s normal for a build-up of scurf and dandruff in very thick tails. Washing the tail regularly will clear the pores of dust and grease. Use an antiseptic shampoo with warm water, massage it in, and use a stiff brush to comb the hair. Apply baby oil after washing and put on a tail bandage once dry, as this will help with condition.
