Hi Lara, I would defiantly not be using spurs on yours, as she only been backed a year and still working things out. It may be that once she is confident she may pick up the pace. What is she like on the lunge? Does she respect your voice? I lunge my gelding without a lunge stick and he does everything from my voice and when I ride I use my voice 1st then my leg, this has really help him, as he knows exactly what to do. I know every horse is different though and everyone does things different, but try your voice and then a whip as an extreme back up, before you put spurs on, otherwise you will rely on them and I think they make people lazy.

hiya - id try using your schooling stick more before thinking about spurs, using it to tap off her side next to your leg and make her more responsive to that area. i hope this helps first. k x
