I have used a solocomb for years, about 15 years, on one of my horses as she hates having her mane pulled. It always looks neat and tidy. I used show her and had to have her mane short enough and thin enough to plait and the solocomb allowed me to get her mane right  without it hurting her. i would recommend it to anyone. I now use it all the time with all my horses instead of pulling manes, on the ones that have pulled manes anyway as 2 have long manes.

 After ...decades of pulling manes, i now use a thinning knife, it's like a penknife, but with a serated blade, you use it in a similar way to a pulling comb, but it cuts the hair instead of pulling it out so is pain free; it gives a similar finish to pulling as you can back comb the hair a little then cut & you can choose which length to cut it.

Even my sweet itch horses don't mind it!
