i would advise baileys no1 - its roughly £11 a bag but lasts a long time, you have to add water to it to make it a mash but you dont have to use alot of it hense why it lasts so long, the bag will have intructions on how much to give her, the only ingrediance in it is 'wheat' so its purely used for weight gain and has nothing in it that would excite her :-). i have an 18month old sporthorse filly that was really under weight when i got her i put her on baileys no1 with chaff and youngstock mix and i noticed the difference with in a week, i bought the bag 6 weeks ago and still have 1/3 of a bag left.

i used to work for an equestrian feed store for 4 years and done all my training on feed their and baileys no1 was by far the best feed i found for weight gain and i always recommended it to my customers that come in with a problem like yours and always had great feed back on it , in fact one of my customers had a 36 year old TB that would not live in so he lived out all year in all weather and she always struggled through the winter to keep his weight on, i suggested baileys no1 and he is now 39 and still going strong and she now has no problem keeping his weight on :-)

I feed my 21 year old td/arab mare on WINERGY Equilibrium vetran mix with alfa afla oil nd sugarbeet, she has haylage instead of hay as she has a dust allergy. This seems to work for her and keep her weight on as she dropped weight 2 winters ago and I slowly changed her feed over from DandH vetran to what she has now and she is doing well. Most people think that she is alot younger than she is. I also get her teeth checked every 6 mths. Check usual, teeth, wormer etc also

my boy isn't a good doer either...costs me a fortune in winter but i love him. Have you tried dodson and horrell sixteen plus pasture mix and build up cubes??? If this helps this is what my boy has in winter:

breakfast: scoop bowl of senior hi-fi, 1/2 garlic scoop, 1kg of pasture mix, 1kg build up cubes, veg oil, veg or apple

Dinner: scoop bowl of senior hi-fi, 1/2 garlic, 1.5kg of pasture mix, 1kg build up cubes, veg oil, veg or apple.

I also have to give him 3/4 bale of hay ever night Nov - Feb but at the minute he is having 1/2 bale. Its the only way i can keep his weight on but i must say he is 17.1hh.

Try the dodson and horrell build up cubes i found they are fantastic. Don't use th mix cause you go through loads and the cubes are more cost effective. What are you currently feeding?
