I’d like to start giving my 32-year-old Icelandic mare a supplement, but don’t know which one. She only gets hard feed in the winter, is ridden at least three times a week, coming in at night in winter, and doesn’t wear rugs. She won’t go near a lick.

As your mare is 32, I’d suggest looking at feeding a veteran ration, such as Dodson & Horrell’s Sixteen Plus cubes, or Baileys Senior Mix. If you do choose a veteran feed such as Sixteen Plus you won’t need any additional supplements, as it already contains several useful ingredients, including:
● Antioxidants, which help protect cells from damage by free radicals.
● Yea-Sacc, which supports a healthy gut and maintains fibre digestion.
● Herbs, such as nettle and dandelion to help reduce stiffness.
● Glucosamine, to help healthy joints.
● Garlic and mint, to tempt fussy eaters.
