i have found bailys outshine to be amazing two cup fulls a day and she has put loads of weight on it works wonderes were other feeds failed i also feed our horses redi grass because our grazzing is rubbish and it seems to have worked well with both our mares.

Hi, L.A was skinny when i had him but have increased his food slowly and he's put on about 80-90kg's since June. I started to use Veg oil just normal stuff from asda at the beginning of winter just for extra calories. Its not made him mad or anything and his coat is lovely and shiny. L.A is 16years old too. Try calling Dobson and horrell they are brill for advice. I have L.A on 2 feeds at day and he has 1.5 scoops of hi-fi senior, 1kg of pastue mix, 1kg of build up cubes, 3-4 gulps of oil, 1 apple and 4 carrots in each feed and loves it. It sounds alot but he's a 17.2 warmblood with a large tummy. He's now 582kg which i don't think is still up to weight but he's looking good. Oh and he has nearly half a bale of hay per night. As has been said, check her teeth and that worming is up to date first. What is she fed currently? If not already, I'd go for a conditioning feed (I've found Baileys no.4 to be very effective) - phone a feed company to find out what may suit your mare, and what quantities she may need - Baileys and Topspec are very helpful. You could add oil, it's cheap and works, although you need quite a lot to be really effective and some horses are put off by the taste. I use Baileys Outshine as a top dressing on my feeds - it's a super concentrated high oil supplement - it's quite pricey but boy does it work!!
