raw sugabeet i dont know. but if you buy the nuts in the bag always SOAK them first or it will swell up in the stomach.

You must always soak sugar beet, never ever take the chance.  It's not just the expanding in the stomach you have to worry about, sometimes it expands in the throat and they choke.  I saw this happen once and the treatment to get it out again was horrific, it involved a tube being inserted and lots of water used to flush it out, the poor horse was totally distressed.
