An extremely small amount of horse hair could be preserved within handmade resin jewellery such as this: www.shpangle.co.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php The beaty about this form of jewellery is that the hair is no longer exposed and other objects or colourants can be added to further personalise the piece.. or alternatively the hair could be encapsulated within a paperweight.

I lost my horse 3 years ago and still makes me cry. I got his tail and had a braclet made out of it with also the hair from my new horse,it is twisted and mounted with silver. There are companies in England and America. it makes me feel close to them. This may sound odd but i made the end of his tail into a swish for the flies out of an old whip just cut the required length and bind tightly with electric tape. I feel i  have him close when out riding with my other horse. The rest of the tail i have enwined with his old shoes that my husband had mounted on a piece of wood with his name on. It has not altered in any way and would think will be there for years. I hope this helps.
