During the summer I was knocked down by a 17.2hh Warmblood who was being examined by the vet, breaking my ankle. Ever since, the horse hasn’t been the same around me. Does he remember what he did?
Answer
By Your Horse
Homeopath and NLP practitioner Caroline Putus replies:
Horses have very good memories and I’m sure he remembers the incident – but it’s difficult to know what’s going on in his mind.
He may connect you with the general stress of the experience, or it might be that your memories affect the way you behave around him – this will affect the horse.
Here are some ways to make him feel more comfortable around you:
Keep your movements slow and deliberate. Keep your voice low, and measure tone and volume. Breathe slowly and rhythmically. Make intermittent eye contact – don’t stare him in the eye.
Homeopathic remedies to help you and the horse include the Bach Rescue Remedy Star of Bethlehem, which can be taken as drops on to the tongue or added to drinks.
Star of Bethlehem helps remove the effects of shock and trauma, no matter how long ago they happened.
You might also give the horse Bach Rescue Remedy when the vet visits.
