YH writer Rebecca Gibson says:

I tried on many different makes and models of riding hat before settling on the Charles Owen Euro Skull Cap. I was determined to find a hat that fitted my head perfectly. My last riding hat seemed to fit well enough when I bought it, but the padding inside quickly thinned, and soon it was as much of a hazard as a piece of safety equipment. The final straw came when it started to tip forward over my eyes when I jumped! The Ultralite Euro is deep fitting, so it feels very secure around my head. And because it’s made from slimline glass fibre, it’s also very lightweight and extremely comfortable. There’s enough padding to make the hat comfortable to wear for long periods, but not too much, so the hat keeps its shape extremely well. This hat conforms to the highest British safety standards and is kitemarked to PAS015 and BSEN 1384. It comes with a smart matt black silk, emblazoned with the Charles Owen logo. The soft edged threepoint harness is made from high strength nylon and has a fast and convenient quick release fastening that can even be tackled with gloves on.

If your looking for an allround hat, you cant really go wrong with the Charles Owen Ultralite Euro Skull Cap. Its light, comfortable, and wont break your bank balance! Its a well designed and attractive , which also comes with a hat silk cover. Its made to the highest British safety standards. Now the only thing is I found that after a few months the padding reduced and kept slipping. So when I baught a second hat, I chose a smaller size so that it fitted slightly too tight, and it has lasted me well.

I have always liked the jockey type skull caps and went specifically to be fitted for one to replace my old one, which was outdated and in dire need of retirement. Spending long hours in the saddle I need a very comfortable hat that not only fits well but isn't too heavy. In the 'riding hat shop' I tried various makes and styles of hat, many of the modern skull designs are comfortable but did feel rather cumbersome, as if you would know you were wearing them or they just felt rather heavy. Some of the harnesses felt as if they were almost restricting movement or would be very hot in good weather (I know "what's that?") The Ultralite is exactly what it says, it fits very securely without pinching and felt extremely comfortable, the harness is also light and non-restrictive but even I knew the proof would be out on the trails. Rotten weather has kept my rides to no more than two hours but during this time I forgot I was wearing the hat, it is wonderfully comfortable and light to wear, I felt very protected but unrestricted. I would highly recommend this hat, and it is British made.
