Features: The Shires Highlander turnout rug has a 200g filling, which makes it suitable for days when there’s a slight chill in the air – you could always add an under-rug for extra warmth. It has a 600 denier outer, which is made from rip-stop fabric, to prevent any damage to the rug from spreading. It’s waterproof but breathable, with taped seams to help prevent leaks. There are twin straps at the chest, cross-surcingles, leg straps, tail flap and gussets at the shoulder. The chest and shoulder is lined with an anti-rub lining, and there is fleece wither protection, as well as three D-rings for attaching a neck cover.

Size Options: 4ft to 7ft 3in.
Colour Options: Navy/cornflower.

I have a large collection of expensive and 'good looking' rugs that need replacing and in my search for cheaper alternatives I wasted over £100 on a weatherbeta rug that leaked and left my horse drenched and cold. I bought one of these shire's for £30 at Horse of the Year show on a whim and am chuffed with it. Its very very warm (like a duvet) and keeps my horse completely dry - even when its hacking it down. I was so impressed that I bought the heavy weight version (stormcheeta) which is also very good. With all the high-tech rugs around (such as the Fal silver range) that cost an arm and a leg, its refreshing to know that you can still buy top quality rugs at sensible prices. It fits well too but my horse is cobby so prehaps may find the neck rather big if you had a thoroughbred or something of that ilk, but thats the least positive thing I can find to say about this rug.
