Tester: Advanced dressage rider Jo Gummer used this rug on her veteran hunter, Lex, who’s a big horse, taking a 6ft 9in rug. He spends a lot of time out, so wore the rug for long periods.
What's Great? This rug has a tough outer, of 1200 denier, and it’s also very warm, with 400g filling and a detachable neck cover.
What's Not so great? I found it did come up a little shallow in depth for him, which is unusual as, although he’s big, he’s not especially deep in the body. Over the winter, there were three occasions when I had to rescue him, as the rug ended up hanging around his neck and even on the floor – overall, it did tend to slip a lot. I also found that in very wet weather, water was able to creep into the back of the rug, under the tail flap. When Lex put his head down to graze, sometimes there was a gap between the rug and neck cover.
