tbh i would get some weight on him before riding him, and some muscle on his back end, maybe give him a couple of months off with a bit lunging/longreining to build up the muscle??

 

i certainly wouldnt ride him hard (pushing him) as hes in about the same condition my friends was when i used 2 show him 4 her (after being abused, not her that made him skinny!) but be careful, and build up fat and muscle properly before doing anything strenuous!

 

really sorry if this isnt what u wanted 2 hear, but u wanted honesty!!

Hi

I also personally wouldnt ride him until he had a bit more weight on as he must feel terrible in himself already and wouldnt feel right riding him if you are doing everything right and he is healthy he shouldnt take long to put a bit on. May i ask how he got in that condition do he have something up with him? As he could need a bit of work on his teeth or worming? I bet he is a stunning horse when right!!

Hi, I can see the link....

I think you need to give a bit more information - you say people have said you should not be riding this horse anymore - which says to me you have had it a while?  How did it get so thin?  I see the other horses in the background look tubby enough and there looks to be grass - has he been poorly or is he old?

Either way, I really do not think you shoudl be riding him...he does not have the muscle structure to be supporting a rider and he will get sores on his back.   He must feel pretty down in the dumps and lack energy.  If you dotn know why he is this thin, I think you shoudl get a vet out as he really doesnt look very well...sorry to be so negative but I am really concerned that you are not more concerned about his weight - riding him shoudl be the least of your worries - working out why he is so thin should be.

 

sorry if that sounds a bit judgemental but you havent really given much info....

He really needs to put some weight on, and you shouldn't ride him until he has. I don't really know enough about horses to be able to give you a good reply, but I know he is way too thin.

yeah, it definately looks as if there's something wrong with him, and also, what's that around his eye? is it just flies? maybe he needs a fly hood when out in the field too...

I think you need to get the vet out, looks like it needs worming and a weight management programme, i would of thought it would do some damage to ride with the lack of muscle and fat on its back. Sorry
