I know how you feel, honestly...

About four years back I got asked to help a friend to look after three ponies (one of which she loaned) while theyre owners were away. I know it was only for a week, but the ponies were amazing, so much different from riding school ponies, and we jumped, galloped across fields, rode bareback to the field etc, until the owners came back, and I went back to a riding school, and it just wasnt the same anymore...

Luckily, the girl who I'd helped knew someone who then wanted a pony riding, so in came Bramble, who's 11hh, and an absolute monster, and I rode him for about 6 months (as well as helping to look after a yardful of horses at the weekends) before my parents finally realised that I was capable of having a pony, and balancing life and everything, and the next spring they got Bronson for me (:

 maybe you could see if anybody round your area wants their horses riding at a weekend or a couple of days a week? you could always place a little work for rides ad in your local tackshop. but, if they've agreed to get you a horse of your own (great thing to put on your vet/uni apllication too) then that's great!

well, i have an update actually, I'm soo confused! My dad said it was a really good idea to begin with, i got myself so excited, i told all my friends, I started looking for horses...now my dad is saying he doesn't think it would be a good idea...WHAT??? I spent all of last night crying, but at the same time, feeling bad for crying, because its selfish..but he said we'd talk about it somemore today...this is my dream...i'm so sad..confused,,irratable...HELP

my dad was the same, but my mam persuaded him, using the argument "it will stop her getting 2 intense with studying...and stop her hanging round street corners on a night...you dont want her 2 start getting into trouble coz she's got nothing 2 do do u??"it worked, not sure how gullible ur dad is tho, mine is very gullible!(but lovable too)

can i point out i wasnt hanging round on street corners!!it was a hypothetical situation!!im not a chav, and i never stood a chance at getting served 4 booze, i still cant get served and im 18!

i was in a sort of similar situation last winter ! i'm 14, and ive been riding for about 8 years, and every birthday wish i can remember has been 'a pony of my own' lol. but mum and dad, whilst they say theyd love to be able to get me a pony, just cant afford it, and i was getting really upset because the riding school i was at wasnt able to give me what i wanted [higher jumps, faster ponys, xc, shows etc lol]. i also rode friends horses, and i know a lady who rescues horses, so i spent a lot of time with hers, which was SO rewarding, but just made me more frustrated at my situation. i ended up quitting my lessons, but then 'a miracle happened' ! lol. in the form of two awful ponys that i now share on loan with my best friend. theyre horrible, they bite kick bolt . . . and i love them, theyre the best thing that ever happened to me. i have actually started lessons again, and its so much better now. im also getting a job now, saving up for my own after uni.

just keep trying, word of mouths brilliant if you can get horsy friends to tell their friends that you're willing to work for rides or something. good luck, you're last post about 'i'm not going to make it to the top, win a gold medal at the olypics, spend 500 grand on a show jumping horse' is something i had to accept recently aswell, but you can always dream ! [i do anyway ;)]
