My horse again.. :(

I am here to ask for any idea or suggestions.

I have my own horse "greg". I find out that he losses his weight for almost 1 kg and he has poor performance lately.

I am just worried if what would be the cause and the solution for that?

Thanks for the help.

Go through the usual possible causes such as his worming programme and the condition of his teeth.  You don't say what he currently gets fed or if he is out at grass, and his level of work so it's a bit hard to advise you.  Might be worth getting the dentist out and maybe a vet check.

Hi Denny,

I presume you mean 100kg? Need more info. Is/was he over or under weight? What is his feed & management? What is the 'performance problem'? Has he been wormed & had teeth done recently? How old? Anything else you think relevant?

Thank you so much for your concern. :)

He eats well but I've noticed that he did'nt gain weight.

His belly is bloating a little.

and Messed up coat.

Is this a symptoms of Horse worms????? :(

A "pot" type belly could indicate a worm burden, but what do you mean by a messed up coat - do you mean he didn't shed it in the summer, or do you mean that it is a bit dull and lacking general condition?  If you haven't wormed him recently then it would be a good place to start - I would give him a 5 day course of Panacur Equine Guard and see what happens from there, and get his teeth looked at as well.

I am happy that you take some time to help me. Thank you.

This is my description of his situation right now..

1. He loss weight even I fed him daily.

2.  1 (one) kg sir.

3.  He is too frail and weak to gallop around.... :(

4.  My 2 year old Greg....

I think that would be relevant descriptions.....

Yes... Almost to the point that their tail looks like an old boars hair brush...

So, it means that my horse has a worm???

Please ask the vet to examine your horse.  1 kg is not a drastic weight loss, however a horse who is frail and weak is concerning.  The earlier a qualified person has a look at your horse the better for him and for you and to make him well again.  He's only 2 so he should be energetic, it might be the feed he has isn't suitable for his stage in life, but I am worried that you say he is frail, so please ask the vet to check him over.

Your horse may have worms as a worm burden will serioulsy affect the condition and vitality of the horse, but equally it could be something else.  If he hasn't been wormed then please do attend to it, but also ask the vet to see him too.

Incidentally, what are you feeding your horse in terms of feed and does he have access to a good field of grass?

I am very thankful for your responses and concern to my horse. I hope many members here are just like you. Hmm? Definitely he is weak.

Yes, we have healthy grass here in our small ranch and it's all for him.

I agree with your presumption that this would be worms. What veterinary products that would be best and effective? I am doing my own research though but I just ask for confirmation if it will be the right one.
