Scopey Welsh Cobs!

This is my friends 14'1 Welsh Cob..and I was video-ing them tonight and all I could see was scope and potential! He's eager and loves jumping which is always important if wanting to take things more seriously..and he is intelligent and can be rather highly strung.. with some help he could definitely be amazing...

I just had to share because he's just so..full of potential! He could easily jump much bigger..clearly within his capabillities.

Anyone else with a scopey welsh cob?

I used to loan a cracking welshie called  Crayon who could jump for England! He was phenominal at XC and used to jump everything with gusto. Sadly he was too much for me as I was no where near as brave as he was so he went on loan to another rider at the yard. The lad who took him on was gutsy as they come and did fabulously with him. Wasnt all bad for me though as I ended up loaning another welshie called Fizz  who was also a great little jumper but a bit more my level!

Years and years ago I used to ride a 14.2 welsh cob at my local riding school - a chestnut mare called Roulette, who was everything a chestnut mare is reputed to be, lol, but she was gorgeous, really keen to do anything that involved speed or jumping.

Loved her to bits

Re: Scopey Welsh Cobs!

I used to school a welsh cob for a girl while she was at boarding school during term time and it was a fantastic little thing !!! Only 13.2hh but I got it going really well in a very short space of time and it would jump anything put in front of it, very clever pony and very pingy !!! We went on to do reasonably well round the eventing circuit too. The only issue the pony had was that it had a liking for bombing off, and it's owner wasn't the most confident kid in the world not helped  by being dragged around the countryside by the naughty pony. It eventually almost put an end to my showjumping career as I had a terrible fall from her when she ducked out in front of the second part of a sizeable combination after actually taking off with her front feet, she spun on her hind legs, I flew off and landed with my foot twisted round the wrong way. Damaged all the ligaments in my knee still swollen four years later, some nerve damage. It was a while before I could get back in the saddle after that one. A very talented pony though, full of character. They are super, the welshies, big hearts, turn their hoofs to anything, I'd take another one on any day of the week haha !!!

I have a 4 year old welsh, haven't started jumping but been trotting and cantering over poles, its really funny because he lifts his knees really high, almost touches his own nose! My old welsh cob loved hunting he may have not been the neatest jumper but he loved it and would manage to get over anything logs, gates, hedges!

Cobs are very versatile.  Sammy's not a welsh by any manner of means, he's Irish.  He's only 10, but he's been a trotter (with the travellers he came from) and he's done some dressage, and he can jump really well he just gets scared of hanging planks lol!  He is a confidence giver too as he takes it at your pace, he can pep up for a confident rider and he'll look after a novice - he's my bambino!
