Trauma?

Will a two year old that was weaned at 6 months remember it's mother if reintroduced?  The mother is a baby machine so i get the feeling the mother will have a heart of stone by now but the youngster??

My friend has a mother and 4 year old in the same field, they can be taken away from each other no problem but my youngster had a particularly traumatic weaning.

Thoughts please!

Re: Trauma?

How is the youngster when it comes to over horses, does he get distressed being left or has he bonded with any other horses? If he's the needy type I dont think it would matter if it was his dam or not!

Re: Trauma?

oh dear, what was traumatic about his weaning?

if its bean over a year, i presume he will just treat her like another horse, but a friendly female one so might be a bit clingy

my horses are my medicine, without them im even more crazy!

Re: Trauma?

Other horses;  He bonded very strongly with my mare as a surrogate mummy,  i spent ages weaning him off her, now rides past now and he'll say hello and not panic.  He lives out with a chilled geldings with horses either side, he still mouths on meeting another horse.  He's good as gold leaving his mate for up to 30mins now, attempting to take his mate away from him soon. all very gradual!

His weaning: He was taken from his mum in one go and stuck in a huge pen with 5 other 6month olds and then two weeks later i had him. He tried to rear over the stable walls, very aggressive nasty stuff. No gently gently approach which has mentally scared him which is why i'm so careful with him.

Thanks for your help!
