I'm Watching a Saddle on Ebay.....

... but I need some advice.

My horse has had a hip problem which we've been treating with our EMRT lady and a Chiropractor, and now it's time to get him a new saddle that fits him properly..

I've been recommended getting him a VSD saddle (so it's cut back for more free movement of shoulders) and either a 16.5" or 17" seat. Both would be fine for me, but I think I was told that the shorter the seat then the better movement he's going to be able to have behind.. Is that right?

See, I'm watching a 17", it's a good price, but I don't know whether to wait until a 16.5" turns up and then it might be even better for him.

What do you think?

Hi

I have a tack shop and so am used to fitting saddles, etc.  It is really hard for anyone to guess the size of the sadle without knowing the size of your horse - what size is it?

Also - what kind of saddle are you thinking of getting and what sort of shape is your horse?

regards

ashley

Hello, I'm looking to get him a Wintec using the Cair system. It's hard to measure his saddle size because he is very high withered and has a fairly prominent back bone at the moment because we need to build him up. He's probably about a medium-wide fit but will need any saddle building up to accomodate his withers.

He's a TB x Hanoverian 16.1hh, quite long in the back (6'9 in rugs). Thanks.

I would never buy a saddle without the help of a qualified Saddlefitter, especially with a horse that has a problem. I`m always scared I would miss something and the horse could get hurt.

HAVE YOU HUGGED YOUR HORSE TODAY???

I've had the advice from my Chiropractor on what to get, and she's also a qualified saddle fitter. I was told it's ok to get the ones with the Cair system as they can be altered to fit your horses shape.

I used to be scared of getting the wrong one, but getting a saddler fitter that can bring and try on various second-hand saddles are far and few between, and I ain't buying a new one! So enough's enough, I need to bite the bullet and get him one I think can be made to work for him.
