try half-halts with your outside rein, just pull gently and sit deep in the saddle and relax, its a common mistake to lean forward in the saddle with shifts your weight and can provoke the horse.

Have you tried different reins or a bridle i had a TB who was incredibly headstrong but i changed to a hackamore (a bitless bridle) and it worked magic. Only use that as a last resort but its worth thinking about it.

hope i helped :)

it depends what your horse is doing.  Is it leaning on the bit, is it opening its mouth, is it crossing its jaw, etc, etc.  Is it putting its head up and evading the bit?

An idea might be to use a martingale to prevent it putting its head up and possibly a grackle noseband or a flash noseband.  Also, what type of bit are you currently in as it may not be the correct bit for that horse.

Anotehr possibility is that the horse may need its teetch checked as this can cause the behaviour you have here.

Try looking on www.saddlery-online.co.uk for all the differnt nosebands, bits etc'

put pressure into the saddle with your knees and put more weight into your tailbone. make sure you dont let your pony drag you forward. always keep upright with your arms bent to make it harder for your pony to pull you forward

When are you having these problems? Out on hacks? While schooling? In every pace or just trot or canter?

Go back to basics with your schooling and use seat and voice to slow, not hands. Get her listening to your seat and you won't have to rely on your hands as much.

Instead of pulling back when you ask for slow, bring your hands up - this way she can't lean on the bit. Don't yank - just raise your hands gently. As soon as she slows, even if it's just for a split second - lower your hands again. Squeeze-release is pointless if you don't release at the right time. She needs to know what she's being asked.

My horse always rushes to the jump ahead of us (she's a show jumper) so I work her really well on the flat and bring her into a nice frame, which gets her really Paying attention to me. In between jumps, I use the sea-saw technique which is working each hand at a time, bring one hand back, then release, and bring the other hand back, if your horse is familiar with this technique, he may start putting his head down, mandmthat slows my horse right down.

I used to ride a horse like this I found sitting deep and keeping your hands slightly firmer than normal helped, however I wouldn't recommend using too much tension on the reins as this can actually make the horse just go faster as they try to get away from your hands.

It all depends on your horse really but you just have to get the right balance between holding her back and not putting too much tension on the reins, x

In trot slow your rising helps.  Do lots of transitions and changes of direction, circles and serpentines to get your hore listening and working with you.  Half halts too
