 Hi, we've had the most unpredictable weather here and it's been such a pain. Colours lives out naked pretty much all the time but I woke up this morning at 2.30am to 25mile an hr winds and pouring rain. I couldn't sleep worrying about him getting cold. He's fine with just wind or bit of rain but both like that and he'd be wet through and freezing! I woke hubby up and drove the 6miles to the stables prepared to bring in some very soggy horses to find them all pretty dry and grazing. I quickly popped his summer rain sheet on him and left them out munching. Lucky as that rain did catch up later on. When I told people today they thought I was mad but there's no way I could stay snuggled up in bed knowing he could well be shivering in that awful weather! Does anyone else ever do this?! Horsey people just don't get it lol! :) that's love!

Aww, you really are a caring owner so good for you and your hubby ! They do rely on us for their health and well being and I know that in the circumstances I would do the same as you. What would we find to worry about if it was'nt for our loveable neddies lol !!

 Once i can drive, i shall be doing stuff like this, i worry sick at night, but there is no way i'd be getting a lift to check them.

Paranoid I think is the word I am sorry to say and all I can say to you is join the club, you would fit in well at the yard I am now at we are all the same, but the way our horses react to us is so remarkable as all very loving including my girl Sabrina, I even held her paw so to speak in the thunder storm last night.

it's true, they rely on us. As domesticated animals, there is only so much they can do for themselves..and that is where we step in as owners. Parsley is spoilt rotten and I do not care lol. He deserves it. I'd rug him up permanently if I could haha.

It's lonely in the saddle since the horse died.

It not only me then that worries about my horse who unfortunately is more than a little accident prone, it has been commented on the amount of potions and lotions I have, that reminds me a trip to the vets for more special blue spray. The stable has rubber flooring and rubber walls all I now need is a large amount of bubble wrap for my Belgian Warmblood Mare, told I am too kind as a horse owner but as many on here was told by the vet my horse has a better health care  plan than its owner. The Vets I use have a very large Equine practice with 10 vets now. Many of the problems we get now is because our horses are living alot longer than many years ago.

Had to laugh at your post as I'm exactly the same !!

We've had torrential rain and wind, just like you, and all mine are naked and out 24/7.

Three I'm not worried about as they're all teenagers and well covered to cope with it, but Bracken is coming up to 23 and I do pamper her now as she can lose condition, but so far I've resisted the temptation to put a rug on her at night.

She's never felt cold or looked tucked up at all, and she still has the remains of her winter coat on her back and under her tummy, which probably helps, and they have 2 stables and a field shelter which they can go in or shelter behind.

I see we're due heavy rain again tonight, so she may well get a light weight rug put on - summer weather????

After bringing my horse Sabrina in she was shivering quite badly, she had been wearing a light turnout so she had a stable rug put on her which is a medium weight, in the morning she was toasty and really made a fuss of me, she is a Belgian Warmblood Mare aged 17. When I kept my horses at home I just let them wander and was able to keep my eye on them 24/7 and if they wanted to go into the stable at any time they could and you knew if it was going to rain as would not set foot outside the stable and the one used to make me laugh as she would close the stable door on herself at 5pm every day.

 Cheers guys! I'm usually pretty tough on Colours but he is also wearing a muzzle so can't just eat loads. No field shelter either but good hedges. My friend is always asking if I want a rug on him but I rarely do. This weather has been mental though! Lol

We are all worrying about what turnout coats if any to put on, do we need fly masks and other people come back up to the yard to change coats as either the horse has had no coat and its raining or its too warm and coats need removing, worry, worry, worry. Are the horses getting too much / too little feed, can we get the turnout coats dry for next day, has the horse hurt herself / himself in the stable or out in the field.
