Exercises to develop your seat..

I'm feeling a little rusty at the moment and my lessons have stopped. Feeling at a bit of a low with my riding but plan to boot myself into gear and get back to doing what I want. A lot of girls (inc 2 more to leave within the next couple of months) have left my yard and I now do a lot of things by myself so the fun has gone from jumping together and things blah blah.

Anywaaaay. Can someone give me advice/exercise to do regularly to help myself gain a good seat? Like no stirrup work etc..I need to start to really working on my riding instead of messing about!

You could try rising trot with no stirrups? It definitely improves your balance, although only do it short spurts cos its painful!

Yeah! No one at my yard jumps either really..so I do it by myself. It isn't fun because I know I'm not doing it well so I just get frustrated. :( AGH

Can you get someone to lunge you, Like this you could concentrate on your seat and not to worry about your horse. Try bareback riding or riding without stirrups. I can`t think of anything else at the moment.

HAVE YOU HUGGED YOUR HORSE TODAY???

i think it also gives you a confidence boost having people with you, that are jumping too, i used to jump 3ft 3 on flick with the other girls, because we'd all egg eachother on and have a laugh. SUCKs now. ha. i dont even have a field to ride in.. total massive happy hacker now!

I literally cannot agree with you more. One of my videos includes one sunny afternoon where three of us all got together, popped out for a short ride and decided to jump, even though one of my friends really doesn't like it, we all egged her on and had fun. Ever since that..everything else has seemed rubbish lol. Like I'm not even surrounded by people who jump anymore. they all left! Thing is, I refuse to become a happy hacker. I can't settle on that, it bores me to death. I love to jump but I can't at the moment as I feel so rubbish about it.  Damn our complicated lives rosebudd!

I no how you feel! I refused to be a happy hacker, but it has happened i am afraid. I used to jump the forestry barriers (wooden ones) but i cant find any since i've moved! also nearly ended up in a hedge thank to two LOVELY guys on motoX bikes. i cannot type the words i'd like to and what i shouted at them, as i will probably be banned. i no char, complicated! on the other hand, i leave college tomorrow!!!
