Treeless Saddle

I have gone at last  to a treeless saddle but it don't look like one, it looks like a normal English Saddle, its a Easytrek Flexiride, the price was good £239 it uses memory foam and there is no pressure put on the spine, you use standard girths, stirrups + leathers and numnah, I saw one being used by the YO and had a good look. Tried out the new Saddle on Sabrina as have a problem trying to stop a saddle from slipping, Sabrina inspected it when I carried the saddle into her stable and a funny thing happened when I put it on her she relaxed and started to go to sleep could hardly keep her eyes open. So far the set up is the new Tressless saddle, Hunting Breastplate no Martingale fitted, French Link Rugby Pelham with the extra slip head and double reins used, lovely relaxed horse on a hack yes a hack then when I finished the ride she made such a fuss of me.

Re: Treeless Saddle

You will have to let me know how it goes with the saddle Kevin. I looked at their website last week when you mentioned them to me. I am going to save up for one for Charlie for next year. What are the knee rolls like? I have to have decent knee rolls for when he starts throwing himself about!!! I also wouldn't mind one for Sky.

The Knee rolls are good but here again its what you are used to, and Sabrina loves a good nap and it manages well. What surprised me is actually a treeless saddle which acts like a quite normal saddle, did not expect much but what matters most is how the horse reacts in fact sabrina loves it which is the most important, also the rest of the tack which appears she gets on with.

Re: Treeless Saddle

Brilliant news !!! Fab to hear that you have found a combo that works !!! You're lucky to find a good comfy treeless that you feel secure in I have ridden in serveral different types and makes and never found one that I liked which I think is a shame as I love the concept would be particulary nice for me as I have two horses and would therefore get away with one saddle unfortunately have had to spend around £2000 getting saddles right !!!

I am so glad you did not listen to the advice on hear Kevin and stuck by this horse and gave her a chance I would never have anything other than a warmblood I am their biggest fan haha !!! Sensitive and intelligent I am so pleased you gave her the time she needed as you are now seeing the benefits, no one ever said owning a horse was easy and I just feel some people give up too quick !!!

Happy hacking to you !!!

Re: Treeless Saddle

I was dubious to say the least but this due I think to only ever ridden in an English Saddle, but you have to keep an open mind. Many of the treeless saddles are based it seems on a Western style saddle, not knocking them but people who ride western would not like our English Saddles. Have used the new saddle now a few times and you don't know its anything different, also will be allowed in shows as looks exactly like a normal saddle, what is unusual it has a big D ring for a crupper which non of the other saddles I have owned have. Watch out though to make sure that the straps for the girth will go through the buckles of the girth strap as only one my girths had this problem was surprised at this. Sabrina neighed and came running up to me last evening when I called her and wanted to be comforted in the thunder storm in her stable, she does wind herself up but a cuddle works and a kind word, she is coming the horse she should be and soon to be a grandmother.

Re: Treeless Saddle

Do you put a numnah/saddle cloth under it? I'm very picky when it comes to saddle's, but I like the look of this and treeless is definitley something I woulf try for Winnie as she's just a baby and a funny shape too, the benefit of a traditional looking treeless saddle for me means I could show her in it and as she grows and changes shape I wouldn't have to keep having her saddle refitted costing me money I simply don't have! :D

Re: Treeless Saddle

This saddle just needs a thin saddle cloth or numnah just to keep it clean even though dont really need one I am told but I use a thin cotton numnah. Watch the width of the buckles on the girths you use as one I have is slightly narrower than normal which I did not know as used on the other saddle but sorted. I saw this saddle in the flesh so to speak at first as its the one used by the YO as her horse is a funny shape as like everyone else I was dubious and the price could it be any good was in for a surprise in a good way. If anyone is in the area of Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield, Aldridge, Walsall area they are quite welcome to have a look and see it used as well on my big girl Sabrina a Belgian Warmblood who is also a difficult shape and cannot afford the saddle I would have liked which was the Lovett and Ricketts Eventing Saddle I used on Tonka as now £1400 aprox.
