progress at last!!

well i have SLOWLY bringing Roobee back to work. She lunges well but does not like having rollers etc on. After a couple of months i have got the roller on and after a couple of indignant squeals she is working ok. It all seems a bit strange that i was riding her last year just before i found out she was 9 months pregnant! I have in the last month tried her saddle on, but the cow kicks, full up rears etc i thought it will take forever.  I got her teeth done a couple of weeks ago and they were sharp.

Anyway tonight i thought sod it, I put her bridle on over her headcollar ( minus the reins) no problem. I placed the saddle with saddlecloth on her back gently and she gave a small kick. I made her stand quietly and gve her a mint. I took the saddle of and put it gently back on again. No reaction. I walked her with hand on saddle ( no girth done up at this point!) a few times around the yard. I gave her a few more mints and stood quietly. I put the girth on one side and gently did up the girth. No reaction!! I walked her around the yard and she was looking around and quite happy. I think we are slowly getting to the point of possibly me geting on baord in a months time!! woohoo!!!!

thanks rosebudd. The thing is with Roobee is she needs to trust you and to do that she pushes youto the liit to see your reaction I have never used a whip. I have growled at her or a slap on the belly when she really cow kicked at me. but thats it. I really hope she is now ready to accept us getting out and about. xx

Im sure as soon as you get back in that saddle she'll totally change her outlook on the whole idea to being ridden again. horses are very testing, be shown that again this morning. they push to the limit and see how far they can get. they're all truly amazing animals (:

Good to hear that you are starting to get somewhere with her. Hopefully wont be long before you are riding her again. At least taking things steadily you are letting her muscles build up again on her back to take a rider again. I have seen more mares have foals and then a rider geys on and they think they can ride them normally and don't hink about all the muscles having to tighten back up, really annoys me that!!!!!

That's fab news Sonia, I cant wai for you to get back in the saddle again, you've had a long enough wait with all the problems you had with Pride and then JJ coming along! I think alot of the time it is just repetition repetition repetition with horses and baby steps and it is obviously paying off but also sometimes just giving it a go and being confident but gentle that this is the way things are going to be and showing them that actually nothing bad happened! Keep it up and keep us posted! x

Great news, Sonia!  Roobee is very lucky to have a patient and understanding owner. Like you said, it's a trust thing, and once you've established that again I'm sure things will keep getting better.

Finally your patience is paying off,  I've read some pretty horrid posts on fb lately that have made me think, a women sj ing until the day before her mare had its foal, foal 12 months old this week and she's been out competing the mare every weekend!  Roobees a lucky mare to have you x

Great news, you have been really patient with her and it's now paying off for you, I'm sure that Roobee appreciates your kindness and giving her plenty of time to adjust. Have a lovely weekend with Roobee XX
