Applyby Horse Fair

What do other people think about Appleby Horse Fair.

Lots of cruelty happens their and sometimes even death but also there are some honest people out there her generally look after their horses when they go there.

Re: Applyby Horse Fair

My friend and her dad have traded there for years and years, and have brought back many good horses (2 of which I ended up buying off them) and they always went for the full week, however now they only go for an afternoon as it has seriously gone downhill over the past couple of years, not just in terms of the horses and what not, but in terms of violence and crime.

Horrid and wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. :)

It's lonely in the saddle since the horse died.

Re: Applyby Horse Fair

In fact, forgot to say, Sammy (in my avatar) came from there!  He was skin and bone at the time and was bought off Irish travellers at Appleby by my friend's dad, he was a trotter and could really move in in a cart and that's what he saw in him, then I bought him off him in the October and you wouldn't have known he was the same horse as he was up to weight and healthy again, although he still had some issues with the way he had been handled by the travellers.  It's 5 years down the line now and he's so much better, but sometimes just the way you move or some types of men i.e. build and height, or loud male voices, can have him shying at times.
