Think we have a diagnosis at last - long sorry!

Well, Friday I had given up and was going to pts because I couldn't stand the collpasing episodes anymore, but a friend pushed me to get Anya on the drug for epilepsy just to see if it did make any difference and so that in my mind I would know. I can't tell you how devastated I was on Friday I have not cried so much since ZZ was really ill, I didn't want to say goodbye but could not bear the suffering anymore.

The medication gives a 50/50 chance of success and normally you will know witin 12 to 48 hours if it will work.  Yesterday Anya went onto the medication and although she had a couple of staggering around episodes over night she didn't fall over at all and normally she has at least 7 episodes over night!  She is a little sedate today but eating well and seems so much more relaxed and interested in what is going on - and no grumpy snapping at anyone that looks at her!  She has also laid down and gone to sleep a couple of times over night which is fabulous.

So it looks like my little old mare has epilepsy, and its now keep everything crossed that this medicine does the trick and if we can get her stable then she can have quality of life back and maybe just maybe be in our lives for a while yet - I do hope so.  It has been a long hard few months but the reward of seeing her interested again and not looking so pained is wonderful.  Shw was obviously very uncomfortable as I could not even get a head collar on her in the stable, took all day to catch her to take her boots off last week.  Then Saturday I spent 45 minutes trying to coax her to have a head collar on, which I rewarded her with a walk out - last night it took about 5 minutes and again we went for a walk.  I am about to hopefully go straight in pop a head collar on and we will go for another walk and nibble some grass, all of which I think will help lift her spirits.

Fingers crossed for the future.

that sounds great! It's always amazing when one small change (the medication) can make such a big difference in someone's life!

Just out of curiosity, what is the medication called?

Lets hope that the medication helps Anya i will be keeping everything crossed for her ! After all that she has been through she now deserves to be comfortable and happy. You must have been going through a terrible time but managed to stay strong for her so i really hope that you've found a diagnosis. Best of luck with everything, let us know how she gets on, take care Lyn XX
