Sticky seat breeches or jodhpurs - cheating or not?!

Is it cheating if your jodhpurs help you keep your seat? I had always ridden in jods with a faux suede seat. Am I making it easier fro myself or should I learn to sit properly without it. I am aware that I could slide out of the saddle - particularly when doing work without stirrups!!

I love them and don't care if it is cheating!  They are a good investment for riding young and spooky horses too, where maintaining a good contact with the saddle is essential.

whatever makes you feel secure is whats good.  I love mine, although i'm a bit on the lumpy side at the moment so they aren't that comfy but given the choice i'd wear sticky bums every time.  I only ever feel secure in long boots too, the leather on the leather of the saddle makes my legs feel secure

I know a lady who used a cloth type saddle synthetic saddle and sticky bum  breaches and said she velcroed herself into the saddle, if your knew her horse you would understand and a safety precaution as us older riders don't bounce just go splat and groan and mutter (swear). My riding and balance is not as good as it was due to injuries horse and work related and don't think cheating, also what about super glue or impat adhesive. This is at our level of riding but would be cheating in competions unless everyone wore them.

I put all my sticky bum breeches in the bin. For me they have a very uncomfortable feeling. I like the ones made of the same material and no knee patches. What annoys me is when I find a really good pair of breeches and want to buy a new pair 2 years later they have been replaced by something new, and usually not better.

HAVE YOU HUGGED YOUR HORSE TODAY???

I think sticky jods are cheating just as much as putting a saddle and bridal on the horse!  It's just an added bit of security to help keep us on.   If you are worried about your seat not being good enough, have you tried riding bareback?  It's one of those 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger' situations!!    But its a lot of fun, and is great for your position and stability...

and so agree with TruStar!  All the best stuff I have is old, especially my old hunter wellies!  Nothing new I buy seems to last longer than a couple of weeks!

The way to stay on was how the old Lt.Col. taught many of us being able to ride with no stirrups and no reins jumping. I have a bridle which is still used and is 23 years old made in walsall with English leather and comments have been passed over how supply this tack is. The breeches today I think are better to keep clean than those made from cavalry twill which you nearly stand them up the corner by themselves, the white riding macks were better than the horrible wax jacket things which go slimey, you can get them still but now fetish wear the mind boggles and I don't want to go there it would give the wife a heart attack at her age.

dont think they count as cheating as lets face it if a horse does a big spook/rear/buck, it takes more then a sticky bum to stay on!!!

my horses are my medicine, without them im even more crazy!

You could sticky bums on a numpty and they'd still fall off. The only thing that's cheating is super glue!
