small issue

Hi guys quick update as not been on for a while...Jake is fab love him so much he tries so so hard and is so loving and calm but has still got life in him when out for a hack..in a couple of weeks im going to have a lesson on him with a girl on the yard who has given me a lesson before when we had Guinness.

now to my question...when were out for a hack and he gets fed up he throws his head about trying to grab for more rein and when hes really bad like he was the other day I got off him when we got back and my hands were red raw basicly from him doing it....so my question is basicly how do I get him to give up? haha

By not giving in to him!  Basically keep your hands in the correct position and keep him interested by doing some upward and downward transitions such as up to trot, back to walk, canter when it's safe to do so etc and keep him thinking so he doesn't get fed up.  Also invest in some gloves to wear to protect your hands, I know the weather is hot at the moment but you can still get cotton ones quite cheaply which will do the job.

Wear gloves for a start, also walk in a loose rein don't pull keep a light contact, also check what bit used and also teeth.

Like the others have said wear some gloves,  Tommy will yank when he wants a stretch, usually after we've been out for a while, so maybe let him have a stretch and head shake then take up your contact again

Re: small issue

Thanks guys I have been doing this (minus the gloves) so you have confirmed it to me :) I do notice it more when hes on the way home or when hes trying to get at grass (obv) so I let him have his head on the way home and he practically drags his nose on the floor haha.

Thanks again guys :)
