I now have two horses who need sun cream on their noses, Bracken and Fate.
Bracken has always been brilliant, you just hold her head and smooth it on, and she just stands there, I swear she knows it's helping, lol.
But Fate, who we've only had since last November is a different matter.
Before her previous owner bought her she had been hit around the face a fair bit, and was not exactly head shy, but very wary, especially of her nose.
From what I've gathered putting on sun cream was a bit hit and miss in previous summers, and I've tried my best to find a non smelly easily applied baby sun cream.
But whenever I get my hand or the tube anywhere near her nose up goes the top lip in a typical Flehmens attitude, and she shies away.
I do try to take it steady and talk to her, make a fuss, give her a treat when we've finished, and I am getting some on but not really enough.
I also try to touch and rub round her nose at other times, she loves having her bum scratched, so I do a bit of bum scratching and then move over her body gradually until we get down to the nose so she gets used to it being fussed.
She won't wear a fly mask or I would have given her one with a nose net on the end.
So, does anyone else have a problem like this, and if so what do you do please?
