So does your riding attire change when the weather gets hot?

Any suggestions? is riding in shorts really that bad? I've never tried it but I'm always open lol! So what do you guys wear? does it change at all?

Re: So does your riding attire change when the weather gets hot?

Years ago with my pony I used to ride in shorts, but bareback, when the weather was like this. Won't be doing it these days as legs aren't what they used to be and current  horse and me dont do bareback!  Have ridden in shorts on saddle but too painfull on the legs from the stirrup leathers!

Always wear jeans now whatever the weather. As for boots, in winter I wear long boots, country style, and summer I have those Dublin trainer style short boots, and Mountain horse lightweight chaps.

I still wear jods or jeans, but I don't normally wear my gloves and ride with just a T-shirt/vest top. The Joules long socks also go to hibernate! I wear short boots and chaps...

I love this weather as a chap as the girls wear things they really should not like a halter neck sun top which came off at canter, the women in jeans who split them and thats all she had on, then the group from Butlins at Minehead who rode in shorts T shirt and a pair of trainers for a 2 hour ride, they looked funny at 2 of us dressed in full riding gear but we were not the ones in pain after the ride over Exmoor, but I am evil and love people to find out we don't dress like we do for the fun of it. The only change I have for the hot weather is a short sleeved polo shirt.

I used to have a quite thin pair of Dublin jods, and wore short boots and half chaps, with a sleeveless top, no gloves.

My legs woud get sore with jods and long thick socks, so I would never ever wear shorts - far too painful, unless bareback.

i have ridden in shorts but when its really hot found my legs stuck and so painful haha. leggings are the way forward, enough to project the legs but light enough not to get hot.. boots and thin chaps :)

i think you need to ask yourself, do the dangers go away because the weather changes? The answer is NO. When i can ride I still wear my bodyguard jacket, hi viz, hat, jods and long booots, or my leather boots with leather chaps. No point in taking risks, just because you may get hot. You may get badly injured in stead! Sorry rant over!!!!

same here Sonia, it may be 30 degrees but i always still wore my bp, long boots and proper jods.  It's just not worth the safety risk.  Yes i got hot and sweaty but thats what the hose was for after, for both of us...  I have ridden once in shorts and all i can say is ouch!
