Snakes

Moving on from wild boar!  I was doing the hay nets last night and there in the hay was a grass snake - yeah I know harmless but i HATE snakes.  Did I scream or what?  Had to phone father who came and looked, then he called the lads that come and help out at weekends one of which likes snakes - they caught it and took it over to the river bank.

I am sure its back in the hay store this morning - yuk yuk yuk,

There is no greater gift than to share time with a creature of such beauty - The Horse.

Re: Snakes

I like snakes very much, but I think if I would want to have one the rest of the family would move out very fast.

HAVE YOU HUGGED YOUR HORSE TODAY???

Re: Snakes

Guess the warm weather has brought them out - all we seem to get are slow worms which the cats like playing with unfortunately, I keep having to rescue them - the slow worms, that is!!

Re: Snakes

I have only been lucky enough to see a slow worm and this one was huge, my horse Tonka once reared at something in the park in the grass so either an adder or a grass snake.

Re: Snakes

I don't really mind snakes..but if I found one in my hay, I would die of fright, like you

It's lonely in the saddle since the horse died.

Re: Snakes

We don't have snakes in Ireland, so consider yourself lucky that you can enjoy such biodiversity!

Encourage them to stay in the hay barn, best way to get rid of rats!

Re: Snakes

I live right on the edge of adder country around here, not yet seen any and don't want to!  There is an overgrown area in our garden which we are soon to tackle (we have about a half acre of garden and have been doing lots of work to the house) and I'm scared there will be some in it nesting or whatever it is they do - I hate hissers and beasts with 8 legs!

Re: Snakes

I never thought i was scared of snakes until my dog nearly stepped on an adder and it hissed at him, next day i went for a walk and saw another one, for some reason seeing one in its own habitat scared the c*** out of me.  I stopped walking my dogs on the sand dunes in Cornwall after that made my blood run cold
